In 1968, John W. Porter entered the housing industry as a dealer of automated component machinery: roof truss, wall panel, prehung door, and stair machines.  John was later followed by sons Rodney, a machine technician by trade, and Douglas, who specializes in sales and manufacturing efficiency.  John W. Porter & Sons, Inc. continues to offer high quality new and used door equipment. 

In 1998, Rod and Doug established a sister company, Porter Machine Works, to manufacture stair machinery.  Applying decades of experience with all brands of millwork machines and their owners, PMW utilizes designs and technologies that endure, forsaking underbuilt and overcomplicated concepts.  PMW builds simple, robust machines with just enough automation.
